The New Naked Gun movie 2025 lands in theatres on August 1, 2025, and early viewers are calling it a “small miracle” of modern spoof comedy.
Directed by Akiva Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane, the film resurrects the legendary Police Squad franchise with razor-sharp gags, lightning-fast sight-jokes, and an unexpectedly game performance from Liam Neeson as bumbling detective Frank Drebin Jr.
Why Critics Call It “A Small Miracle”
Few reboots escape the long shadow of beloved originals, yet the New Naked Gun movie 2025 reportedly delivers a joke-per-minute ratio higher than any studio comedy in years.
Early screenings at Paramount’s Studio City lot drew standing ovations. Reviewers for The Independent and Newsweek praised the film’s “relentless barrage of perfectly timed punch-lines”, noting audiences laughed so loudly they missed the next gag. That contagious laughter, plus pitch-perfect deadpan, recalls the late Leslie Nielsen at his prime—no small feat in 2025.
The Plot: A Spoof for the Streaming Era
Schaffer’s script (co-written with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand) plants Drebin Jr. in Los Angeles as scandals swirl around a Hollywood “prestige cop-show” reboot. When an A-list villain schemes to replace real law enforcement with AI crime-fighting drones, chaos erupts. Expect running jokes about gritty TV reboots, true-crime podcasts, and cinematic universes—fitting targets for the New Naked Gun movie 2025.
Liam Neeson—From Action Icon to Deadpan Dynamo
Casting Liam Neeson shocked fans who know him from high-stakes thrillers.
Yet the veteran actor leans into self-parody, tripping over chalk outlines, firing a glue gun instead of a Glock, and mangling police jargon with perfect sincerity.
His chemistry with Pamela Anderson (playing sharp-witted reporter Beth Davenport) anchors the movie. Critics single her out for “scene-stealing timing” and effortless reversal of her bombshell image.
Together, they modernize classic screwball romance.
Ensemble Gold: From Paul Walter Hauser to Surprise Cameos
- The Oscar-winning Paul Walter Hauser turns supporting cop Ed Hocken Jr. into a lovable klutz who accidentally live-streams every bust.
- Danny Huston surprises as a menacing studio mogul with a secret stand-up routine—the villain you love to boo.
- CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, influencer Liza Koshy, and WWE champion Cody Rhodes drop in for gut-busting bit parts.
- Keep eyes peeled for blink-and-miss cameos from Family Guy alumni and UFC’s Michael Bisping.
How the Film Honors—and Updates—the Franchise
- Rapid-fire sight gags: Banana-peel pratfalls meet 8K drone footage for a deliciously absurd contrast.
- Wordplay overload: Malapropisms, double entendres, and pun-filled press conferences keep subtitles busy.
- Fourth-wall breaks: Drebin Jr. wonders aloud if he’s “peaked yet on Rotten Tomatoes,” cueing a critic cameo.
- Meta-spoofing reboots: The New Naked Gun movie 2025 pokes fun at its own existence, then tops itself with a gag about unnecessary sequels—before teasing one anyway.
Production Snapshot
| Detail | Info |

| Music | Score by Lonely Island collaborator Matthew Compton blends ’80s cop-show horns with modern beats. |
Early Box-Office Forecast
Industry trackers project a $30 million opening weekend in North America—stellar for a comedy. Global numbers may climb higher as nostalgia meets Neeson’s international draw. Streaming success is almost guaranteed when the New Naked Gun movie 2025 hits Paramount+ in early 2026.
Final Verdict: Comedy’s Comeback Kid
In an era dominated by superhero fatigue and franchise burnout, the New Naked Gun movie 2025 stands out as a gleeful reminder that smart stupidity still sells. By merging classic gag craftsmanship with a modern spoof target list, Schaffer and MacFarlane deliver the funniest, freshest studio comedy in years. If you crave pure laughter—and maybe miss old-school Zucker-Abrams-Zucker chaos—mark August 1 on your calendar.
Pro tip: Stay through the end credits for a rapid-fire blooper reel and a cheeky sequel teaser—because when a New Naked Gun movie 2025 hits this hard, Netflix-style cliff-hangers are fair game.
