Why Lulu Wilson’s Hulu Movie Has Fan Buzz
The Fall of the House of Usher breakout Lulu Wilson is trading haunted mansions for hot mozzarella in Lulu Wilson’s Hulu movie, an untitled college pizza adventure from comedy duo BriTANicK.
The project already had genre darling Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things) and comedic talent Sean Giambrone (The Goldbergs) attached, but Wilson’s casting completes a trifecta of Gen‑Z favorites.
Here’s a deep dive into plot details, creative team, and why Lulu Wilson’s Hulu movie could slice through the streaming clutter.
Plot: A Two-Story Walk Turns Psychedelic Odyssey
Set in a cramped university dorm, the premise for Lulu Wilson’s Hulu movie sounds deceptively simple: a late‑night pizza order.
After accidentally ingesting a homemade designer drug, a group of students must descend only two flights of stairs to pick up their pie—but the trip mutates into a hallucinogenic hero’s journey.
Think After Hours meets Scott Pilgrim with a dash of Harold & Kumar. Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher (a.k.a. BriTANicK) pen and direct, promising rapid‑fire dialogue and surreal visual gags.
Wilson’s Role: Lizzy, the Closet Nerd
In Lulu Wilson’s Hulu movie, the actress plays Lizzy, a whip‑smart freshman hiding her love of fantasy board games to survive within a vapid popular clique.
Lizzy’s arc reportedly involves rolling twenty‑sided dice inside a psychedelic stairwell and realizing she’d rather be authentic than adored.
Wilson told industry friends she was drawn to a script that lets her flex comedic timing after a career dominated by possession scares.
Cast and Crew Breakdown
| Position | Talent | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| Leads | Lulu Wilson | Ouija: Origin of Evil, Becky |
| Gaten Matarazzo | Stranger Things | |
| Sean Giambrone | The Goldbergs | |
| Writer‑Directors | BriTANicK | SNL sketches, short Eagles Are Turning People Into Horses |
| Producers | Jeremy Garelick & Will Phelps | American High banner |
| Billy Rosenberg, Jason Zaro | All Things Comedy | |
| Exec Producer | Matarazzo | – |
American High’s Syracuse soundstage—famous for Plan B and Sex Appeal—will host production. That studio pipeline ensures Lulu Wilson’s Hulu movie hits Hulu quicker than traditional theatrical comedies.
How This Fits Wilson’s Career Arc
Known for horror, Wilson recently led Kevin Hart–produced sci‑fi feature Xeno and will soon finish the Becky trilogy. Lulu Wilson’s Hulu movie diversifies her résumé, echoing her earlier comedic turn in indie darling Wyrm. Agents at UTA pitched the role as a chance to merge her wry screen presence with physical comedy—imaginary pizza slices apparently morph into Dungeons & Dragons beasts during one trip sequence.
The BriTANicK Signature: Viral Absurdism
McElhaney and Kocher earned cult status for YouTube sketches blending highbrow absurdism—perfect training for the bizarre visuals promised in Lulu Wilson’s Hulu movie. Their SNL tenure sharpened punch‑up skills, while American High’s teen‑centric slate offers a ready marketing pipeline (TikTok challenges featuring psychedelic pizza POV shots, anyone?).
Release Timeline and Distribution Strategy
Principal photography begins this October with a 30‑day shoot. Post‑production VFX will heighten stairwell hallucinations; insiders project a late‑2026 Hulu premiere. The streamer reportedly plans a hybrid push: midnight‑screening events at Alamo Drafthouse plus same‑day streaming to maximize word‑of‑mouth around Lulu Wilson’s Hulu movie.
Industry Impact: Turning Stoner Tropes Upside‑Down
Stoner comedies often center male slacker duos. By foregrounding Lizzy’s hidden geek identity, Lulu Wilson’s Hulu movie injects a female‑driven perspective into the trip‑comedy subgenre. Wilson’s horror fanbase could cross over, widening demographic appeal. Coupled with Matarazzo’s loyal Stranger Things following, the film might rank among Hulu’s most‑streamed originals upon release.
Marketing Teasers to Watch For
- Animated teaser poster: Pizza box opening into a cosmic portal with Lizzy’s 20‑sided die floating.
- Behind‑the‑scenes mini‑doc: Wilson teaching Matarazzo tabletop RPG basics.
- VFX TikTok filters replicating the movie’s stairwell warp effect, branded #ParadisePizzaTrip.
Final Take: A Bold Slice of Surreal Comedy
If American High delivered feel‑good teen fare, BriTANicK looks set to deliver feel‑weird teen fare. Lulu Wilson’s Hulu movie melds horror alum star power, internet sketch comedy, and psychedelic visuals into a potentially viral streaming event. Whether you’re a D&D diehard, a Stranger Things superfan, or just craving fresh pizza puns, mark your calendars for Lizzy’s stairwell odyssey.
